							| I had a bit of an 'a-ha' moment... Aluminum is soluble at low ph but its also soluble at high ph. This may explain why ash in the firepits may not be a good source of nutrients. I always thought it was just excess salts or the ph being off... But the aluminum presence/uptake explains it best. It retards the root development. Aluminum may be what keeps wood ash from being a top notch fertilizer. But if I precipitate the aluminum... I am thinking with phosphorus... Maybe that little problem goes away:) Never thought chemistry class would help me unless I became a chemist. I learned so much in high school and college. I struggled, got bad grades and dropped out, but the stuff I learned does come in handy. Its hard to know the value of education until you need to solve a problem. And there are many problems I can't solve. I didn't earn a degree. I barely graduated highschool. I did not achieve good grades but I am glad I tried. | | |
