The question has been for some years if it was actually possible to grow a 2000 pound pumpkin in our hot dry climate this far south with shorter daylight hours through the summer.
The question has finally been answered, and the answer is YES! It can be done and it happened right in my own backyard patch! What an incredibly thrilling season it has been! This season has far exceeded my wildest expectations! I knew I had something special going but it wasn't until the latter half of the season I started to think I might be the first grower to break 2000 pounds in SoCal.
We weighed in at 2077 lbs.! And the icing on top (as if that wasn't enough) the pumpkin won the Howard Dill Award too!
