We're really starting to get somewhere! The main hill has really started growing fast since I added a shade for them, as suggested. I go out and shade them around the heat of the day and remove it in the late afternoon and they are really flourishing with this system! There's tons of new leaves sprouting everywhere, the stems are really beginning to thicken and overall, they seem to be doing really well. Unfortunately, over in the Lowes hill, we had our first casualty last week. The little fighter plant's stem finally snapped from the weight of the growing leaves. The remaining plant on the Lowes hill has slowed way down in growth and is now being beaten handily by the Gurneys hill. I've had my backup seeds planted for about a week and a half and they are doing as well as the last ones did. I am noticing, though, that whatever batch I got in the Lowes packets really like to start fast, grow really tall and then peter out. The Lowes batch of seeds grow slowly but are stronger over time, so I'm figuring that the main hill will wind up being my best chance for a giant pumpkin and the Lowes plant will have to be culled, if it ever flourishes. I'm definitely noticing tons of growth each day from the main hill, so I think we're going in the right direction :D
