            | wv melonman | Watervalley Ms | my melon was not weighed at a gpc weigh off. It does not matter where I weighed my melon it could have been at the house. Gpc is not connected to franklin county. Just something I heard was going around. If need to I will speak to them, or they can contact me. | 8/22/2016 5:44:19 PM |

            | Smoky Mtn Pumpkin (Team GWG) | sevierville, Tn | this is what the GPC rules state..
No specimen will be allowed into competition at a GPC site if that specimen has been previously entered at another competition.

            | Smoky Mtn Pumpkin (Team GWG) | sevierville, Tn | Now that doesn't specifically say another GPC competition. So i guess it up the the officials to say ???
I always thought that any competition counted. the key being "competition" not that it was weighed at XXX place.

            | Smoky Mtn Pumpkin (Team GWG) | sevierville, Tn | So you could go get it weighed at a scale and that didn't disqualify you. | 8/22/2016 6:11:11 PM |

            | wv melonman | Watervalley Ms | The scales at Franklin county are not certified. IF it was a Gpc event I would understand about not reentering. If you recall the conversation between Jake and Spence about the scales at Franklin County they do not pull the tarp out and a Joke was made not to forget your buckshot because it is not that serious of a weigh off as far as the scales go. would you consider a melon at a gpc event as weighed if the tarp was still under it?( THE ANSWER IS NO. ) Unless I change my mind I will bring my melon to a G .P. C event to be weighed on certified scales they are certified are they not, without a tarp under it and no Buck shots , just a melon. I will talk to whoever I need to speak to soon about this Thanks | 8/22/2016 6:27:13 PM |

            | wv melonman | Watervalley Ms | RULES, WAS IT weighed it still had the tarp under it. so would the G. P .C CONSIDER that weighed or in a competition ? | 8/22/2016 6:42:44 PM |

            | Barbeetoo | SW Ohio | Jerry, i am the person that questioned you bringing the melon you weighed at Russelville to Cullman. I read it on a different thread here and questioned were you able to do that. It wasnt out of spitefulness or any bad intentions. I read the gpc rule the same way Chris did. Any competition. Hopefully you can get some answers. Congratulations on an outstanding melon!Sue

            | Smoky Mtn Pumpkin (Team GWG) | sevierville, Tn | the key here is not if the scale was certified or not. the point is it was a competition.I hope you will bring it to Cullman and get it recorded on the GPC and get a certified weight.

            | wv melonman | Watervalley Ms | Thanks Sue , I am not sure of the wording of the rule that I didn't know about butt surely I will find something out before Saturday. I entered a melon at franklin 2 years ago and then entered the same at cullman weighed 148.5 won 5 th 25 dollars never heard of the rule and nothing was said. look forward to finding out I have already sent a text and a call. Thanks again. Jerry | 8/22/2016 9:32:09 PM |

            | Andy W | Western NY | Hi folks, I'll chime in -
 From the GPC Rules (http://gpc1.org/index.php/join-gpc/official-rules)

" No specimen will be allowed into competition at a GPC site if that specimen has been previously entered at another competition. "

We have had this situation come up in the past. Again as then, we will state that a previously entered fruit is not eligible at a GPC competition.

However, if you think that this may have a shot at a state record, I would still encourage you to bring it and have it more accurately weighed. It could be entered into the GPC results as an Exhibition entry if it is judged to be sound and healthy.

 GPC President

            | Holloway | Bowdon, GA | I was not aware of that either. I always had it in my head that you couldn't double enter GPC events. But thinking back most of the double entered melons I can remember were weighed at GPC first. I would bring it to Cullman anyway to get the state record weight. It might weigh 256. | 8/22/2016 10:27:53 PM |

            | wv melonman | Watervalley Ms | I am glad I found this out before Saturday, Thanks Chris and Andy. | 8/22/2016 10:49:12 PM |

            | bigmelons | simpson,KS | Kansas state record not even posted anywhere so is this my opportunity? | 8/23/2016 5:18:57 PM |

            | wv melonman | Watervalley Ms | My first State record and the other 2 have been weighed 3 miles from my house on certified scales at a propane station , with witnesses news paper picture and a notary . You can also take IT to a G.P. C KEEP IT GROWING. | 8/23/2016 5:30:49 PM |

            | bigmelons | simpson,KS | have to go to the state fair though to get the glory and braggin rights | 8/23/2016 6:03:51 PM |

            | Barbeetoo | SW Ohio | Most state fairs bring scales in and have them calibrated and certified prior to the fair starting. The main thing you need to do is document the weighing. Photos of you with the melon on the scale, photo of the scale certification. Witnesses, etc. Jake Holloway keeps track of the state watermelon records for the GWG. He may know what the record is for Kansas.Jerry, congratulations! I think your state record deserves its own thread :)

            | wv melonman | Watervalley Ms | It was good to see you too Charles. If I make the trip I will probably bring a different melon only room for one melon. The melon did feel heavy so it may get a visit to the local scales. | 8/23/2016 6:20:18 PM |

            | wv melonman | Watervalley Ms | bigmelons I think it would be wise to ask the state fair about the scales. | 8/23/2016 6:37:50 PM |

            | wv melonman | Watervalley Ms | Thank you Barbeetoo , I have no new state record yet, I may take it to some local scales just to see. | 8/23/2016 6:58:36 PM |

            | Holloway | Bowdon, GA | Hey Jerry bring it with that other melon sat if you can, we'll witness it for you. That way no need for pictures witnesses all that stuff. If you can't let me know I will let you know what all GWG needs to make the list. Big melons email me I'll see if I can help you out [email protected] | 8/23/2016 11:41:38 PM |

            | bigmelons | simpson,KS | Iwill do that. But I do know there is really no certified record in Kansas. The scales look certified though. I do know the record on the wall of fame is 185.5 for watermelon set back in the early 80's | 8/24/2016 9:14:45 AM |

            | BiddyGoat | Aurora | So, if I am understanding this conversation correctly - at a GPC pumpkin weigh off a watermelon can be weighed even if that fruit is not listed as a fruit which can be registered for weighing? I am asking because I posted a while ago this very question and I was directed to check another state. There is a weigh off at Siegel's Cottonwood Farms in Lockport, IL, but I do not see the information posted to the website. Anyone know about this and how to register for the weigh off with a watermelon or pumpkin.thanks

            | bigmelons | simpson,KS | A GPC event usually has a watermelon weigh off too along with the pumpkin so not near the hoopla of pumpkins but atleast we can get certified. Some sites require pre regestration some don't so have to check it out. | 8/24/2016 5:43:17 PM |

            | wv melonman | Watervalley Ms | Thanks Jake

            | jlindley | NE Arkansas | BiddyGoat it can be weighed as an exhibition fruit to get a certified weight yet not be considered for prize payout. | 8/25/2016 9:51:11 AM |
