Too much shade, then you take away the shade, and white turns to green.

You can see the natural color they should have been where filtered light hit them around the bottom.

This, minus this, equals this!
They're in the shade as well and dressed in orange.
One mind-bending pic! eg

I wonder what they shaded it with.

When you say shade Andy, do you mean the pumpkin huts we build over the fruit or a different type of shade?

I never knew this.

Thanks Andy.

A sheet does it. So will leaves. Join the cult of orange. Trim your leaves and leave your pumpkin naked.

Thanks Andy and Don. I get that on parts and completely makes sense now since I grow in heavy shade. The areas I get it on face north and are at the bottom. I expose the top quite a bit. I’ve never had like the above. It almost looks like a mildew\mold on a sunken, shaded brick.

Not to argue with Andy but it doesn't seem to me like shade would cause this. I shade my pumpkins completely with a sheet and have never had an hint of green show up. I think it has to be genetic from squash in the lineage.
