I had an idea I wanted to post to get feedback you guys can tell me if I'm thinking straight or not.

So, I have a pumpkin that looks pretty good but its probably getting towards more than what my truck can haul.

A local pumpkin patch (Carpintino Bros.) was pretty good to me last year. But it was a new weigh off so a lot of the seating was empty.

What if I took my pumpkin up there early a few weeks ahead of the weigh off... and put a sign that said "Come see pumpkins bigger than this one get weighed, on October 1". Do you think that would create a buzz?

I dont care if I lose 100 lbs off the final weight especially when those extra hundred pounds might break my truck lol.

What has worked or not worked for you all, in terms of getting people interested in attending your weigh off?

I hope I'm not crazy!

I think it is a great idea!

I’d venture a guess that there are already an organized bunch of folks with the Pacific Northwest Giant Pumpkin Growers Club that are already in close connection with the property owners who allow the Weighoffs to happen at their site. Contact the executives in the club before going directly to the source.

Promotion is always a good idea.

Northshore isn't wrong, but any type of promotion we can do for our local weigh off is a good thing!
If just a few people saw that fruit, that might strike their interest in going to the weigh off they may not of even known about.
I struggle with a lot of ideas you put out, but this is actually a really good one!:)

We get a pretty big turnout at our weight off but I know doing something like this would really help.

What happened to the pumpkin Weighoff at the Washington State Fair?

NSB I think it dwindled due to an earlier weigh off date, then Covid, plus they went non GPC one year. The prize money remained relatively small so as far as the top growers were concerned, greener pastures elsewhere.

I wonder if anyone can help with transfer for your pumpkin maybe then it can grow bigger and you can break the 1000 club

The Fair decided it was not in their best interest to keep on with the weigh off. They kept making the weighoff earlier to where it was in late August, and therefore not too many pumpkins came. Joel and I would always support the weigh off,but it became apparent the Fair was not supporting the growers as they should.

For moving your pumpkin don’t think your poles will work maybe someone has a lift ring and flat bed they can help you move a 1000 # pumpkin instead of you cutting it earlier

Your tri pole get your head outta the gutter. I thought this site was growers helping each other successfully grow. I was hoping someone could help you transport your pumpkin and weigh at a weigh off. Sorry you want to quit.
