Why are my pumpkin tendrills burning up?

If the surface ground is dry and to hot it could burn them when they make contact. Or if you used a new or more then usual chemical spray that didn't effect the rest of the plant as of yet. How is the rest of the plant?

They curl up naturally if they don't get to wrap around anything, too, by the weigh---eg

We did have a day in the mid nineties. The rest of the plant looks good. Thanks for your responses.
