Should a person grow all the secondaries for better rootmase ,or cull every other one for better leaf growth and more airflow? I'm debating on culling some secondaries on one or two plants to see what difference it might make. Any thoughts or suggestions.

I wouldnt thin secondaries unless you have a plant thats the opposite of a sprawler. If you have a plant thats got real significant leaf overlap/ short internode distance then maybe thin some as spacing dictates.But as a general rule I wouldnt thin.

Growers often cut out weak secondaries. Theyll often progress much slower than neighboring secondaries. Those will/can have weird flower cluster growth at the tip.

How do you guys prevent that weird flower cluster at the tip thing? That happens for about 10+ ft last year. (I realized the problem is Micro nutrients) But this year I am having similar problems with the 1940 Urena, although there are only 4 secondaries that way, and the rest are fine.

Back in the day, Geneva Emmons set a world record by pruning every other secondary for better airflow....it's not a bad idea. I personally keep most strong secondaries.

@Sankalp I think its a hormone thing. I think they lack sufficient auxins to be able to develop into normal vines... the micronutrients probably help boost the phloem sugars and the metabolism of the plant, which in turn could switch the auxin production back on. This year on my plant I had 2 dud nodes, then two overly strong secondary vines, then two weak vines, then all average sized vines after that.
As for removing vines I don't know. Its a good question. I almost think when you get a few overly strong secondary vines, which can can sometimes be so strong they are like additional main vines, these maybe the ones which should be removed. The logic being: maybe they distract the plant from putting its full resources into the main vine itself.
