I did a little bit of research, and found a couple of sites that say if you water plants with tap water, it can be bad because of things like chlorine. The school I will be growing in this year has city water, so basically tap water (which is chlorinated I guess, and also apparently has fluoride). Would it be okay to give my pumpkin this water?

There are filters you can attach to the end of your garden hose that you can buy on Amazon.

There may be a recommendation to 'store' that water for a couple days to allow any additives to dissipate until below any harmful levels but that's just the first thing I thought of, and may need to dissipate to the open air; If so, come up with a genius idea to use the PRESSURE of an incoming source to push out the STORED water without any mixing of the two, similar to a 4-stroke engine - that'd be the trick!

There are many growers growing well over 2000 pounds right out of the tap. Most of them don't post here.
I use the filters coyote is referring to for the end of all my lines. They seem to work and the local pot growing store showed me a water test he did after using his and it took 99% of the bad stuff out.

City water has its benefits... the thing where you suspend an avocado hapfway into a glass of water until it sends out roots, things like that dont work for me because my non-chlorinated water causes things to rot. I can imagine if I had city water, I might also have less of those superficial vine rots than I had last year. All those worries about the microbiology usually ends with the grower applying fungicides, phosphite, etc. so for many of us, to worry about chlorine would end up being hypocrisy.

City water here with chloramine-never a problem.Chloramine doesnt gas off, it needs to be filtered out with catalized carbon to remove.

Local water just had another horrible test for heavy metals. So this year they are all growing heavy for me! It's so bad it will probably double up as a fungicide and pesticide.

It's fine. You might want to check its pH and see if it has the potential to alter the soil but...probably not.

Jonah, may suggest an irrigation suitability test. Have found in the past that often centralized great lakes water sources can contain High levels of bi-carbonates. Noticed as white rings around faucets and sinks. Bi-carbonate bonds and locks-up with negative calcium cations in the soil. This lowers localized CEC. Combat by pretreatment of water to below 5.5 pH this breaks bond and ensures free availability in the soil solution. this will be a regular feature in my dairy all summer. Primarily will use phosphoric acid but any will do. Back in the day Jerry rose used Battery acid from the towns old truck batteries. GLTY..

I got a nasty letter from the water utility for using too much water. I live in Minnesota, Land of 11000+ lakes.
