Wondering what other clubs do when people pay via PayPal for the seeds that they have won in their auctions and we as the club get charged fees. Fee's ranging from a $1 to over $10 on their purchase. We did announce that we want people to use the Friends and Family option when they pay via PayPal. Looks like a 2.9% fee plus 30 cents is tacked on if a Debit and Credit card is used.I'm sure all clubs appreciate everyone's support, but as a club we are getting $12 to $15 wrapped up in seeds with postage, bubbles and envelopes. Looking for options of how to handle this. Not naming names of anyone and don't want nasty comments either.

We do not conduct an auction here in Windsor, NS, however my best advice to clubs is to charge a fee to cover P/H, bubbles, credit card, etc costs. These days it's pretty difficult to avoid plastic/bank fees as they want a part$ of every transaction. And I do not think winning bidders would mind paying say a $10 fee on some very valuable seed they won? For a club with 50 lots to send out, expenses can add up fast. Good luck!

Some clubs ask all purchasers to add $2-4 to each purchase. You can easily find the buying requirements and such request on this site by looking at the details of previous auctions. The request for additional fees is usually stated in those details. Don't worry, I wont request a fee for letting you know where to look :-)

I’ve tried to get PayPal to reduce or eliminate fees for our California club which is a 501(c)(3) non profit corporation. Of course they said no. Makes a lot of sense, huh? We paid over $200 in fees from our auctions so it’s not a little amount. We haven’t charged buyers extra fees as we appreciate their support in bidding but maybe that’s the future.

Is there a fee still for friends and family when a credit/ debit card is used? It doesn't show a fee on my end... In fact it adds a dollar or two on my end.

If you have a positive paypal account balance, can fees be avoided on both ends? I think so.

Yes, fees are charged to recipient on friends and family if a card is used. If you use a cash balance friends and family then fees can be avoided.
