Murphy's Law

A farmer near me recommended using Carbaryl 4L as a insecticide for my plants. Anyone ever use it & if so how did it work and what mix ratio per/gal would you suggest?

That's the old formulation of Sevin. Good for killing cucumber beetles.

Hey Andy or anyone what would you recommend using for an all around insecticide for svb & beetles. Thx

We’ve been using Imidacloprid & Bifenthrin for years. Mustang Maxx seems to have more knockdown power for cuke beetles, although it apparently doesn’t last as long.

Andy told me about Carbaryl for cucumber beetles early this season. That stuff kills cucumber beetles so well I bought several bottles in preparation for next year. Great stuff! Don't know about Squash vine bores.

It won't touch SVBs. For those, I like Cyonara and Merit.

Andy what's your application type timing for Merit? Also, is Cyonara a contact insecticide?

Assuming I wrote down every time I sprayed:

June 26, July 16, and Aug 31 were the main foliar treatments as well as one drench of the seedlings when planted.

Cyonara (same active ingredient as the warrior-T we used to use) I think of as more of a repellant but it will kill stuff.

Anyway, it wasn't enough. I did have SVBs worse this year than normal, and I've heard the same from other growers locally.

I applied Granular Merit in April. Can say if it worked or not since I had a couple of foamy stumps and don't have enough experience to tell if a rotting foamy stump just that or the result of an SVB attack. Do the results of each look similar??

Wow1 That was full of typos. :)

Garwolf, SVB's do not just attack the stump area. You'd see signs (sawdust like frass) all over the plant. They enter stalks, leaves, pkn stems, and usually end up in the main or a secondary.

Got it, but does the result of an SVB attack on a stump result in the same outward appearance of a foamy stump over time?
