Yes, PPP...PumpkinPinholePanic ;)

You guys are making me nervous, posting those sad news without actually revealing the identity of the poor one.
May I guess that it is the 1940 (...and the 1885A is still alive and at best health)? Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Ouch!!!...Good Luck with the other big babies.
Just a thought: Get its weight...already over the WR?...if so, then count backwards (with last week´s average daily gains) to the day when this pin hole might have appeared...and then: blame it on the lack of August weigh-offs in your vicinity ;)

I am hoping that this is a prank, and on weigh off day, they will get the WR.

Dang following the Paton's diary is like reading a good Novel. The twist and turns the highs and lows. The cast of characters and their care givers struggling to achieve harmony with one another and mother nature. What I'll take away from this years edition/read is how determined and dedicated the Patton's are. It will happen one day boys that I know. Good luck.

My condolences to the Paton's that one really, really stings. I think everyone on here is very disappointed to hear it was your 1885. I know I was following that pumpkin closely and was very excited to see it make it to the scales.

Sorry to hear the bad news. Been glued to your diary, waiting for the next 10 day entry. Regardless i hope it breaks the scale when you weigh it in 10 days. Hope it's 3000lbs

I second Gritty, look at Rodebaugh is doing with a cutting. The pumpkin is bigger than last year's seed grown pumpkin. Propogate some cuttings if you haven't surgically snipped everything yet, you got some great genetics on your hands, and even if you don't grow the cuttings for competition, they'd be great for pollinations

So true! We're filming the documentary this week and its all about small yard growers and doing the best they can in such tiny areas!
There's no ranches in Los Angeles because of the price of land. Showing our small spots we find wherever we can is a tough thing to do.

All about the backyard growers!

What a disappointment. Sorry for you guys. It's all part of the ride I guess. My potential WR field pumpkin got a BES today so I can kind of identify.

Much love to you both from Southern California! Broke my heart to read about your loss. Those of us that have lost a pumpkin have a bit of understanding what you must be going through.

Ian, stewie, I haven't assimilated it yet, your loss has hurt me a lot. I lost a 2183 with about 2200 pounds, and I haven't suffered anything, but your loss makes me very sad. Anyway, what you have achieved is very big, you have marked the way, now all growers know that it is possible to get 3000 pounds. In addition, that seed will be incredible, incredible. 1885 x 2356, a very large pumpkin seed, crossed with large and heavy pumpkin. Make sure the seeds are fine, they will be very important by 2023.
