I pollinated one of my 176O plants early, but then culled my first pollination for better position and timing assuming there wouldn't be any problems with a new pollination. My second pollination was successful but the pumpkin never developed so I culled it as well. Dissection's revealed an open cavity in the center of it. My third attempt looks though it may have the same malfunction. I opted to try another pollination on a secondary this a.m. just for the heck of it. If it doesn't take this plant is toast. I've got bigger and better vines to bury.:) Any thoughts, ideas, suggestions regarding this plant. The plant is doing well by the way.

How hot has it been? Are you having daytime highs into the 90's?

We've had some hot ones, but no problem with a pumpkin on another plant pollinated at the same time. I thought about heat, but I've pollinated several pumpkins on this plant over the last 2-3 weeks. Seems like I would get luck once.

An open cavity is not something Ive ever seen that early. If you could afford a tissue test it might show a deficiency (or excess) despite the plant being healthy otherwise.

Every now and then you could get a plant that grows fine and looks healthy and all your pollinations will abort! I have had this happen to me twice. A big beautiful plant, each pollination up to about day 6-7 still looked good and shiny and then degraded from there and aborted! I tried from mid June until mid July with no luck and finally quit and pulled the plant! Hours spent for nothing hard to swallow GOODLUCK!

Finally got a keeper on this plant. 7/6 pollination looks good so far. Hope it sticks.
