Hi I think growing big pumpkins is a good life. I'd like to sell the pumpkins for ethanol..I'd like to be able to start 10 1000 lbs pumpkins everyday. That sounds bold. Can I do that? I can plant seeds or I can graft. I'd like to plant 100 everyday. How is that? I'm in south Florida or Central America.

I have a suitable lot I was going to one packet of every giant pumpkin advertisement. To see what I get. What do you think?

I would guess even if you could sell them for some cash it would cost you more to raise them than what you could sell them for.

Pumpkins are the #2 ethanol crop after corn. Corn makes 3 wet tons per year pumpkins make 7200 wet tons. After water 720 after non reactant fiber 500 tons. It's like a tanker a month plus one at the end. P

The pumpkins need lots of water. 100 gallons just for the fruit, flush is more.

On the face of it, it sounds like a great idea. Havin said that, and having grown up in Florida and having spent most of my life there I can tell you that you'll spend more money on insect control and irrigation than you'll make on pumpkins. Even if that weren't the case you would only get a couple of pumpkins on the same plant near that weight category at the same time and that's if you dump money in fertilizer. The more you have on the vine the smaller they'll be.

Do you have a publication source for pumpkins/ethanol. Pumpkins can run impressive tonnage but they spoil. The ethanol business uses dry corn, correct me if I am wrong.

We buy packets of pumpkin seed kernels for our chickens, they are fairly cheap(pub intended!) perhaps a thousand or more in a 4oz bag.
I have often wondered what machine is used for harvesting and removing the seeds, and what happens to the rest of the fruit? Must run into hundreds of thousands of tons! Can't all go into soup.
