Murphy's Law

Since we all look to this time of year and worked hard to have everything ready for our personal best! Some of us or maybe most of us will eventually nickname the pumpkin we are pushing to get so big! Let's hear of some of the names we came up with over the years. My one was called "Independance" because it ws pollinated on July 4th.

I named this one 'Ms. Warty' for obvious reasons - there are 5 pics, including lifting strap damage protection in the beginning stages.
Please make note of that;
'She's a Beauty' - one of my favorite songs, as well! later---eric g

May I have seeds from Warty? I want to grow a giant like that for fun!

I can't see why not - I'm sprouting 3 at the moment because it's been about 7 years and I DID grow it in like '15, but not since. I had a named fruit on that, 'Lemon Drop' and that was of an unknown weight at this moment. Very 'productive' plant but only Lemon Drop survived. No seeds from that one---will be in touch - eric g
PS---Please read the final entry about her for more details and I'll count out the remaining good ones; I have three trying to sprout and if they do, we'll both be better off and I'll email you. Your low temps give you time to get one or two going for this season, I do hope! eric g

I think having a pre-conceived name does the pumpkin an injustice. As the pumpkin grows it will develop its own personality. Now, if you are trying find a name that you can market to increase your seed sales and youtube ratings then that it a different conversation.

Being married to a 5th grade teacher and being in a development with lots of curious neighbors, we name our pumpkins every year. Typically we have a theme for the year: Walt Disney Princesses, Golden Girls, Greek goddesses etc. All fun!

Iam with Joe on this one, my pumpkins name's this year are the 2702, 1707, 1477, and 1470. Now the daughter might try to name hers, which is fine, but to me it will be the 1976

Orange U. Glad is right on the money - I name my kins every year - the names are spontaneous and based on any number of reasons. Last year my personal best came in at 870 and his name was El Chingon - named in honor of an Uncle who passed. I named another kin in honor of our club VP Andrew P. - her name was Sand Bagger Sally. Mr. Drew is a notorious sandbagger in the CO region!

I'm thinking of going with the same naming system the Germans use for their hunting dog breeding registry.
The first litter you breed is the A Litter, thus all pups in that litter are given names beginning with an A. Last year was my first year thus the pumpkin I grew would have had a name that began with an A. This year all my pumpkins would have a name beginning with B. This system helps others know how many years you've been growing pumpkins and helps you remember when you grew what. Seems like a good system to me. Of course I'm half German - the Irish half say's just wait and name them after I've had a couple of beers.

So many great ideas for naming conventions for pumpkins. My daughter usually looks at it and proclaims it's name. Last year it was Bartholomew, because that's what it looked like apparently.
