The weather here in SW PA is looking pretty good after next Wednesday. Lows in the 50's and High in the 70's. If that holds true should I take off the mini hoop houses and let'em roll? When do most folks uncover for the season?

I found it best to keep them in the hoop house as long as you can. They won't do much growing in the 50s. Also nice to protect the young plans from unexpected wind, hard rain or hail as long as you can.

In my opinion pumpkins like it 85 during the day 60-65 at night. Tad to early to take your hoops off and don’t let the weather fool you. Two years ago on May 18TH in Conn I lost several of my best plants to a late heavy frost and that’s with them still in the hoops with extra cover. I usually remove the hoops sometime between May 28TH and around June 4TH depending on the weather and the prediction for the weather for the next ten days! If the plants are getting to big you can open up your ends and sides so they don’t interfere with the plant. You can also ad on to your hoops if you are using a small heater and they outgrow the hoop house early where frost is still predicted. Your plant in a hoop house with a heater will grow two to three times quicker then one without a heater!!!! GOODLUCK and I hope this info helped you.

Good advice. The latest frost I ever had was in early June. I spend uncover then re-cover them a lot. But at the end of the day if the plant has got the right stuff then what doesnt kill it will make it stronger. Maybe :)

Yep its all about keeping the early season soil warmed . Keep em covered as long as your set up allows.

You may to open them wide open a lot of the days but close em up at night to hold some of the heat gains in.

Be grateful that you folk do not live in the Pacific Northwest. Cold and very wet.....plants have no chance outside a hoop house.

May has been terrible too. Almost certainly a frost tonight, plus 4 to 5" of cold rain this week where I'm at. Some trees are still dormant, still March basically.

I'm with cojoe - I open up the hoop houses in the am and close them up at night - with some heat - it was close to 90 degrees in the Denver metro area today - the hoop houses were wide open today!

Stan's right. I have barely cracked the cloches on the sunniest of days. Otherwise, they are closed tight. Minimal growth after 2 weeks in the ground.

The first couple of weeks were definitely slow growth but they've really busted out over the last couple of days since we've had some warm weather. High's in the upper 70's and lows near 60. I guess that's pretty close to perfect. My covers will be off all day for the next four days then back on. Next weeks lows are in the 50's.
