Is it the heat or the UV Index that is the most damaging for the plants? Would the need for shade cloth be more for heat than the UV or vice versa?

As far as I know heat wrecks the metabolism/enzymes/photosynthesis but UV can be damaging also. My guess is both! The UV might be more damaging if certain metals are excessive in the plant, like aluminum. These would hekp create excessive free radicals? I know it sounds quacky... maybe it is, maybe it isnt.

UV maybe harder on the leaves aging wise.High Heat will cause the plant to quit respiring so its a different type of damage. Heat prob. causes early fruit ripening, UV easy to control over fruit.

i find over 33 degrees celcius the plant is affected but on a cooler day say 25 degrees celcius with a high uv you can still get your tips badly burnt been noticing last couple of years uv on an extreme day can burn or even take out your tips as the season progresses the last half can be a majority of extreme

Tip burn is a problem with high UV with low humidity and clear skies with light colored soils.
