Can some folks chime in on how big your main vine roots are vs the roots on the secondaries? Where on the plant are the biggest roots? (Other than the stump). Last question, are there any areas that dont root well/ where you saw fewer roots? In earlier vs later growth, or tertiaries? Or do you see evenly distributed rooting and root sizes.
Thanks. Brandon

Gritty,
On the exactly "2" giant pumpkin plants I've grown I observed that the largest in size and area was the stump. Size wise the main vine roots seem similar to the secondary's except the root area of main vine was larger. The other thing I observed was that the roots coming out on the top of the vines at the root nodes seemed larger in diameter than the bottom roots. That's all I got!

Top-of-vine roots larger ... yes, that is interesting... I realize few people probably have examined the entire root system. I usually neglect my plants mid summer. I do know seemingly small roots can contribute a lot and large stump roots can contribute surprisingly little, (after the switch to phloem-based growth anyhow).
