I've mixed playsand and another type of sand in the past under my pumpkins. I threw away the bag last year of the "other" type of sand and now I can't think of the of sand that I need. Is it contractor sand, masonary sand, construction sand? There is a lot of sand out there. I think it was contractor sand. When I've asked people at Lowes and Menards if they have this type of sand, they just kind of look at me like I'm crazy. Can someone help me out?

I've used masonry sand a lot. It packs around the fruit nicely.

Last year I switched to a more coarse sand, either filter sand or a road mix. keeps things a little more dry.

I prefer play sand. Doesn't seem to pack as tightly.

i can send you some "play" sand john...how many dump loads do you want? Is there a difference in sand by chemical composition. My sand is under snow right now, but i am thinking it seems like a calcitic sand...if that exists.

I use sand from old sandbags that I bought and put in the bed of my truck during the winter.

I’ve only used play sand, mainly because it is rather fine in composition.

Whatever you use make sure it's been washed or it may contain a lot of salt which will inevitably end up in your soil later
