I have some expertise in respiratory protection including the selection of different types of respirators based on the hazard. The most important things are that the respirator gives a proper seal around your face, and that you've selected the appropriate filter cartridges for what you're spraying. Be sure to check the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for the the chemical/material your spraying and where the personal protective equipment specified in the SDS. In general the company "North" respirators are good and are widely used in the hazardous material industry. Be sure you know that a basic High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) cartridge only filters out dust, not pesticides or other volatile organic compounds.

3M also makes good masks and cartridges - I think their pesticide cartridges are model P100, but you can google it.
