I heard from a local dog rescue group that they were contacted by PayPal regarding their fundraising. PayPal told them that they cannot use PayPal to accept payment for auctions. I looked up the PayPal terms and didn’t see anything about auctions being prohibited. Have any of you club officers out there heard anything from PayPal? Probably a good idea to get out in front of this if it’s an issue and figure out an alternative.

Up until our weigh-off on Oct. 8, we had full PayPal access and capability for contestants to pay dues. I've not heard anything since and don't see why auctions would make any difference otherwise.

Have not heard anything about that here. We don't really mention what the Paypal account is used for.

Seems a strange considering Ebay (auctions) uses Paypal.

Guessing that they were referring to not being able to receive payments as "friend or family" but only as a business transaction. No fees on friend or family payments. I would estimate that 50% of payments to the NH and NE clubs have had fees attached to them.

Here is a mail from PayPal to me. It will be difficult for this season.

"Dear J.H..., We appreciate the fact that you chose PayPal to send and receive payments for your transactions. Under the Acceptable Use Policy, PayPal may not be used to send or receive payments for activities that involve an entry fee and a prize, such as raffles, drawings or lotteries. Due to applicable laws and industry regulations, we do not offer approval for these types of transactions. The complete Acceptable Use Policy can be found by clicking "Legal" at the bottom of any PayPal page. To learn more about the Acceptable Use Policy, please refer to our Help Centre page by clicking "Contact Us" at the bottom of any PayPal page. We appreciate your cooperation in this matter and ask that your continued use of PayPal be in accordance with the User Agreement and the Acceptable Use Policy. Sincerely, PayPal "

As in the Crazy Growers post, our club was banned from using PayPal in our seed raffle several years ago.

Yeah the email to the dog rescue seemed to have originated from their raffles, but they were warned about auctions too. So what’s the deal? PayPal prohibits payments for auctions now? As Gray B mentions above, PayPal is utilized by eBay. It would be good to get some clarity on this before the auctions start, rather than reacting to a problem later. Maybe Venmo or Cashapp are options that clubs should consider

If you are doing friends and family for auctions you are violating their rules.

If you are a non profit do you have a paypal account set up, or are you using a personal account?

A raffle is a form of gambling but an auction is not. The winning bidder is merely paying for an agreed amount. No chance involved. I don't see any problem with auctions using Paypal.

Ok- followed up with Dawn from the rescue and she said that paypal will allow payment for auctions, but not raffles or tickets for bingo events because bingo is a game of chance.
