I was just wondering how much water people are giving their Giants to get those big daily gains. I try to keep the soil moist but since my gains never seem to be the big numbers that I see on the board maybe I need to up my watering.

Hey Ned, hope you are well!!

It’s bone dry here in June, July, August and most of September, so Mother Nature doesn’t play much of a roll with the water, so we have to do it ourselves.

On average 75 gallons a day for plants 400-600 sq ft and 125 gallons per day for plants over that. Sometimes I miss a day, sometimes I give the bigger pumpkins a second smaller watering/feeding in the evening.

My caveat is always, that is what is needed for my area of British Columbia.

We are averaging about 120 gallons per day. 1,000 square ft. plants.

I agree with the two posts above. Go to the high end on those sunny, hot, dry days, and drop down some on the cooler cloudy days. With todays genetics, if you have your soil even decent, you should be seeing gains of 40lb or better for a week or two at peak growth.
Some top growers are even hand watering with a garden hose under the canopy to keep the top moist at all times, to keep from getting dry between the drip tapes.

Depends on the moisture holding capacity and drainage of your soil as well as the weather etc. Get a proper soil moisture meter and go from there.
