I have my biggest healthiest plant ever but for some reason my pumpkin on day 18 is only doing 8 pounds a day and is only taping 47 lbs. It is slowly increasing in growth every day but what could be the problem? This slow seems like their must be something wrong but I’ve checked the main and it all looks good.

Maybe weather related?

Probably transitioning from the vegitative growth stage into the fruiting stage. We start shifting ferts from high N to higher P and k as we terminate secondaries after fruit set. She will definatly start picking up once the shift is established. Like Henery said weather can influence the transition just gotta be patient and dont try to force it with fertilizers!

Adam, A lot of people ive spoken to in the northeast are experiencing the same thing. The roller coaster ride of temps seems to be the common consesus of the problem. When we dont even break 70 for several days it slows pumpkin growth. Hope for warmer consistent weather.

I just want to know how slow is too slow. I have day ten numbers at/below 20 inch Circ because the rain stole our sun for a week, is there such a thing as too small this early?

I am having the same thing. I am not going to concern myself, there is not much you can do anyways. I speculate that the slow growth also means that the pumpkin is physiologically younger. SO I expect to see the growth occur over a longer season. Like what happens in cooler climates, they get way more days of consistent growth on a pumpkin. WHere as in the South the pumpkins grow and ripen much faster.

Interesting speculation.

True enough bigmoon. I have another fruit that is now day 10 and looks like day 5. Not too bad though considering phloem is made with photosynthesis and makes up 90% of the growth.
