Sulfer? Just dont get it on yourself especially your clothes. Farm or hardware store may have it... people dust their roses with it I think.

Stem splits will heal on their own, keep a fan blowing on it the rest of the year. Adding stuff to the stem can make it worse because it may hold mosture

I agree with baitman. I'd use a light dusting rather not a thick paste.
