We have a big heat wave coming here, 105 on sunday, 108 on monday and tuesday with no cloud cover. My patch gets full day sun. I have some extra bed sheets, should I make some sort of shade structure or something? I don't have any overhead irrigation to cool them off with and I'm pretty sure they'll get cooked if I don't do anything?

You'll find out if they have healthy roots. I'm putting up some shade but I also will be overhead watering. It's only supposed to be mid 90s here but mine were suffering just at mid 80s.

I had an idea... you could dust the whole plant with something white like diatomaceous earth. Then it would be more reflective. Just an idea... Not saying it's a good idea... :)

The vine tips are most prone to drying out so you need to shade them first. If you can shade the rest, do so too. Make sure there is enough water in the ground so the plant can transpire but not so much that the ground is soggy. A moisture meter will help get it right. If you can put fans over the plant to get the air moving that will help transpiration too. Finally, look at getting a misting system in future, they really work.

I run a couple of ounces of Calcium Carbonate limestone threw
my over head watering lightens up the plant color azos will work also

Plants are doing okay all things considered. It reached 45C / 113f yesterday and today. I lost the main vine tip on one of them after it outgrew the shade cloth and got fried while I was away for the day. Not a huge deal though.

I felt the sun piercing my skin even with a generous covering of SPF 70, and I felt myself wilt like a pumpkin plant after just a couple of minutes in the sun. I don't think you missed anything, big moon! lol

It was strange. I sat down at the picnic table in my yard, which is in full shade all day, and it felt hot to the touch. Its was basically full sun was coming from all directions, even when in the shade, strangely.

It was as though the picnic table had been in full sun all day.. but really it had warmed up that much just from the air. And it only hit 102 here. Nevertheless I nearly hot heat stroke

Humidity was 20% which isnt bad but still... its twice as bad as 10% :)
