So I messed up and missed the pollination on my 1464 brown plant. I didn't cover the blossom thinking I had another day and didn't check my pumpkins until this afternoon. To my dismay I saw my blossom opened, so I pollinated it with the 2350 but it is still open pollinated. As far as I know no one in my area is growing C. Maxima to cross with but don't know for sure. My decision now is do I keep the open pollinated kin (if it takes) because it has a very long stem or do I just pollinate the next pumpkin out? Or do I keep both and pick the best one after a week or so? What would you do?

I would never remove pollinated pumpkin until you knew what your were culling it in favor of. I think your plan to pollinate one more with the cross you want makes perfect sense. If the next one is as good or better then run with it.

Same as Orange. I would pollinate the next in line but if this one is your best just roll with it and mark it as open.

I really like controlling the genetics but just getting a pumpkin set comes first. 2nd generation x open here. Oh well.
