It’s been a very hot May for me. It got up to 90 degrees yesterday and my plants did not look like they were enjoying it. How do you handle the heat? I have a thin bedsheet that I could use to shade the plant would that work?

If its heading towards 85 and mostly sunny I mist at 1pm and 3pm and try to shade any growing tips I have going.

I’m with Jake, he grows around 2K in the heat of Kansas. If you’re dealing with constant heat, you’re bigger issue will be getting one to pollinate when it’s over 100. Again, see above. It’s the entire plant, I used to try just shading or cooling the area of the pumpkin and it was a 95% abort rate. Treat the whole plant.

Put solar panels over your plant as shade, then use that power to run A/C (i hate that abbreviation) + fans under that to cool it further. C'mon, guys the future is here! Just kidding, for the cost of it, but, glad I thought of it! Hmmm. I'd better get more plants planted with all this energy I'm utilizing on the computer. Think about it, lol---eg

Same here, my big five gallon plants went in right before the heat wave and have wilted everyday. I just make sure the soil is damp, I don't let the wilting phase me. The plants need to acclimate themselves and will grow like crazy once they do. Once the plants get some size and I get a chance I will set up a sprinkler system to go on just about every day in the heat of the day. This helps to prevent burnt new leaves.

It's easier to cool a vine than warm it.
We haven't seen 70 degrees yet and we've been in the sixties no more than ten times. Most nights in the forties.

20% shade cloth and misters on a programmable timer here in colorado. We get something like 300 days/year sunshine and a lot of 90 degree weather. No 90's so far this season but usually around june 10th it sets in.
