You could put cardboard under the plants (in the bottom of the pot) so the bottom would slide out easier and not the grab roots as its slid out. Try it on one... I think you'll like it. (The cardboard can remain in the ground it will be eaten by worms and gone by the end of the season?) Thumbs up on the idea.

Thanks John, I really think they are going to help me out come transplant time,something I wanted to do last year , but didnt, gritty all of the weight is supported by the bottom panel , since the sides just ride in a rabbeted groove , not sure wet cardboard would hold up , definitely cant risk bottom falling out during transport to patch, Joe the plan is ..lol..after digging the hole and placing it in,I can pull the bottom out ,pulling sideways from the bottoms end panel, once out ,cut the string and the panels fall out of the groove, the box right now is 16x16 x 12 deep, holding 10 gallons if wanted , the cool thing is I can make the panels any size (width wize) I want,and the 4 support post don't change, should be able to reuse stuff for a couple years

I had not noticed the pyramidic shape of it.
my guess of the order of things is/might be:
1. place near planting hole, maybe also pyramidic;
2. remove bottom piece, hoping that roots keep soil in place;
3. screweyes into each corner outside each top post with crossing strings in the middle would enable one-man operation - else, pushing in on sides might push in on root structure too much;
4. lift over and lower into planting hole;
5. cut lower string with Exacto knife on stick, cut top string, pull up all parts and fill in around sides, if even needed.
6. All worn out now. I need a nap, lol---eg

PS---maybe that Gritty cardboard put in on top of the bottom piece would keep things in order longer and be pierced by the roots anyway---i suggest it be ?% larger than the bottom of the container. Somebody stop me.

The bag idea works but the idea of using a box with removable sides is cool. I bet even a cardboard box could be adapted to create a disposable container. A reusable wood container is cool... a couple steps up from where I am at. Now I'm thinking of other variations, like sheet metal.

what happened above is that i was typing my dream list of steps out while anyone else was reviewing and typing and my page here was not refreshing so i was on old news pretty quickly - like that Liberty Mutual commercial where he misses ONE guy that didn't hear his insurance 'spiel' in the elevator, lol.
just found out the spelling of that word, and i've been wrong for years. need another nap, lol---eg

I worry that the wooden side panels will swell from being wet and stick in the grooves.

You could rub canning wax in the grooves. I think that would prevent sticking of the panels.
