I don't think there is any connection. I haven't seen much variation in leaf shape. Leaf size can vary though . Mostly due to nutrition and cultural practices.

The leaf differences are minor. And of course pumpkin shapes differ, even on the same plant. A nutrition component there, too.

I've gotten long seeds out of a long shaped pumpkin. I dont know how the genes/biology works exactly. It would be hard to prove. It would be interesting to have some anecdotal evidence but I have very little.
