As more and more rumors surface and before this gets blown out of proportion, I'd like supply an insight to what has been going on.
There is talk about a 4 to 5 show series growing giant pumpkins with its culmination taking place at a weigh off and a major display event. There would be 3 or 4 growers that would be featured with an East coast , West coast and either an international participant or a middle America candidate, depending on what the future brings with the current pandemic and other logistics.
This is still a ways off and won't take place in 2021 as some rumors suggest.
The ultimate goal is to get this to be a yearly scenario with the episode number being increased to 10 -12 and possibly 6 to 7 growers. But this all would hinge on how well the pilot does.

Cool Eddy. Put Cindy Tobeck on that show, she would do exceptionally well!

Its a good idea we are stuck way back in the era of the printing press. We dont have a strong presence on television or the internet. Focusing on the struggle, making comparisons & highlighting controversy (growing methods)... and a few gregarious A type personalities and some unpredictability is what it will take for it to fly rather than flop. If the grows were team efforts vs individuals and we could see behind the scenes views of the best growers discussing strategy... & bring back the old 50k prize or something? $20 a pound... oh yeah. Take it to the next level... Rock this thing!!!

Rookies mom, although she may be a good candidate in the future, as would most growers for that matter, but this part of the equation has already been set.

Reality shows need drama to keep viewer interest in the show. An ideal grower would be one that has many bad things happen to them during the season in their quest to get a pumpkin to the scale. Rivalry between different growers could create drama for the show.

I have thought about this on several occasions.
With all the ups and downs that goes with growing these, there is plenty of drama, just ask my family, lol.
I could imagine it being very similar to Gold Rush. All the drama and ups and downs, then at the end of each weeks episode, instead of weighing the gold, the growers tape all their fruits and see how much the gains are.
Best of luck and please keep us informed on this Eddy !

Careful what you wish for.
Should be interesting, though - eg

97pounder!

I would say Colorado would be the best place for drama. Snow in May and September, hail the size of baseballs, 80 mph wind, greenhouse (Chad New) vs. screen, misting. Then you have powdery mildew and YVD. Add in growing at above a mile high and a plant dies from too much sunlight. Then things like split, ribbon, and double vine happen more frequently.

When I'm up there @ 30 million viwers:
'How did you get it to be so BIG?'

I've been in contact with the producers, and it sounds like a great concept and a lot of fun!

This is very exciting for our growing community. Upon speaking with them, they want to produce a true growing show with competition, much like BattleBots that they helped revive. A Show that would truly show the determination and challenges our growers experience. The trials and tribulations. The GPC provided contact information so they could reach out to do more research. We hope that other fruits too may enter into such a pilot.

We are excited about the possibilities, and wish ALL Growers success in building our hobby forward.

Have a great Holiday Season

Your GPC Committee

I am assuming your referring to the NetFlix pilot as that was the theme they were going to use. Last I heard the project was shelved indefinitely
