Bernard Lavery passed away unexpectedly due to complications from surgery on September 17th in Wales, UK. Bernard held many vegetable records. His son Henry contacted me today. Bernard also emailed as late as last Sunday. This was very unexpected and he was a close friend. Thank you for your prayers and thoughts for the family. Bernard was 82 yrs old.

Bernard Lavery was the biggest name in the giant veg world. He helped set up weigh-offs throughout England and Wales, helped write the (Guinness) rule book and wrote a book on how to grow giant veg. He also held the record for the most world records in growing giant veg, including the Atlantic Giant world record (briefly). I believe he held around 20 different world records.

Bernard was featured in a book, How to Grow World Class Giant Vegetables, that inspired me to be a grower. He was amazing, and had such a talent.
