I sure do gene! By far my most favorite seed that I have ever grew. As long as I can bring it to the finish line it will be the first pumpkin ever grown in Kansas over 400...410...420...inches!

Hi Jake et al-

I have been very busy with work so the hobby had to take a back seat. Good to know at least my upper half is looking good;-) I have diary posts planned, but it takes me some time to draft what information I am going to say to tell the best story of the season I can with a science connection when possible for others to see.

However, in short... I stared with two 1989.5 Daletas dmg '17 seeds each started 1 month apart with one being in a greenhouse with carbon dioxide enrichment and the other started at a "normal" time under "normal" conditions. Both treated with Anthesis.

Greenhouse pumpkin- blossom end split and weighed (via in-line scale) 1157.8 pounds on July 5th and was 15% heavy. *Pollinated around 18ft out on May 22nd, 2020. This was a longer shape white pumpkin and everything looked great about it, but for what ever reason it just split. Seemed thick with no major structural flaws that could be seen. I can say this plant was probably the best I have seen in my 20 years of pumpkin growing. *The early start, CO2 enrichment and added heat source I think played a very important role in this.

Normal conditions pumpkin- is still on the vine, but had the main snap for no apparent reason just past the flower before pollination, so I did not have many options, but this pumpkin took and is a fairly tall, but orange pumpkin which I know is possible, but rare off the 1989.5 Daletas dmg '17. Hoping this one will make it to an official scale.

Thanks for the check in and great to hear about your success!

Thanks for the update Matt! Man what a bummer for your greenhouse pumpkin 15% heavy already that thing would have been a beast.

Thanks for the inspiration Jake, I am updating my diary now, which will be uploaded "soon". Even though you may know the end result, hopefully you will still enjoy the story of the process.

big moon- This is similar to comparing my indoor to the outdoor plants that I had due to the staggered start.

Jake- I agree I would have like to see what it could have done, but with giant pumpkins you never know what you are going to get. Great to hear your 1989 is similar to mine, I did get some more orange color though;-)

Note to those still looking at this post, I will be weighing my pumpkin at the observed Woodstock weigh-off this Saturday (Sept. 12th, 2020) so, soon we will all know what it actually weighs.

For those who may be looking at this post and wondering how the story ended, it was on a positive note, with a new personal best of 1,885.5 pounds that was orange and 5% over chart!
