Hey all, brand new to the board and relatively new to pumpkin growing. I just started planting pumpkins last year and obtained 1 pumpkin. This year I decided to use the seeds from that pumpkin. I have a few plants doing quite well but unfortunately I notice the female buds will appear for a few days, never bloom and then eventually shrivel and die. It has been relatively hot the past week or so so I was wondering if that was a contributing factor. If anyone has ever experienced this I will appreciate any feedback. Thanks!

Heat stress will do just what you described.Cant say thats for sure the cause but Id suspect it as the most likely.

Is your plant well established and rooted? When growing rapidly and rooting at each node, they self abort quite a bit. Not sure when you started. Also put a chair for shade over any potentials.

Yes it is pretty well established. I believe I put it in the ground in May sometime. It has creeped pretty far and has rooted as it goes along, I have a few female buds that just appeared so I’ll keep an eye on these and definitely try to shade some of the potentials. Thanks!

Don't fertilize when really hot out that might help.Over head water in the heat of the day to cool the plant.Shade netting is must with the extreme heat & climate change,The sun is more abrasive then ever. You might have other issues buTT this might help.Truly it can only help,

40% shade netting is best as plants only need 50% of the sun

Thank you Bubba Presley. I currently have two buds on separate plants so I’m going to monitor them and nurse them as you said. I’ll see how it goes.

Thanks everyone for the input!
