There is an 80% chance of possible severe thunderstorms forecast for my area tomorrow afternoon, with large hail and damaging winds possible. I'm also leaving early in the morning for a weekend trip. My question is, if I were to put an extra blanket for hail protection on the pumpkins, would that make them too hot and cause more possible issues like splits? The high is supposed to be mid to upper 80's. Any input or advice is appreciated.

As long as the blankets are white, you'll be fine.

Good question. If high winds are forecasted, you may want to anchor those blankets down adequately. My best to you. Doug from Osakis, MN.

TooTall,

Did your pumpkins make it through the storm O.K.? We got a little over 3" of rain, but no other noticeable damage.

Doug14, yes they did. My good friend and fellow grower checked up on them. The wind we had was from a direction I have good protection and the worst of the storms missed us. No Hail! Hoping I can keep both pumpkins going to the end now. I'm on track for at least a PB this year.
