When does your first frost come? Figure on a minimum of 120 days of frost free weather. If I lived somewhere like Texas I would definitely try to avoid the heat of summer. You may have some luck if you start now.

depending on where in Texas, yes you could start a pumpkin now, in the northern pan handle maybe not but below Lubbock i would think so, imho

In the Austin area, I planted some regular regular pumpkin seeds and a few sprouted they are from a pumpkin I grew earlier this year. I have some seeds from a grower that grows giant pumpkins and want to grow a few. Guess I should just do it right?
