A little good news, the Half Moon Bay weigh off has been scheduled for October 12, 2020. Due to Covid disease pressure, it will be held at a private location outside of town with only growers in attendance. The prize structure remains intact with $7/pound for first place and a whopping $30k mega prize for a new world record. That would mean a world record would be $48,372.90, even if you just beat the previous by .1 pounds! Imagine the money from a 2800 pounder! I could use $49,600!
That should be enough to cover growing costs, right?
I wish fairs near me paid that much. The best prize money is 2000 for first, and 1700 pounders often win it, so about $1.50 per pound.
