I found this dead bug on a field pumpkin plant and am wondering what kind of bug it is.

As long as they feed on tree roots while underground I'm ok. I hope they don't feed on pumpkin roots Maybe some of the wasps flying around the patch will kill the adults emerging from the soil.

I’ve been through a horde of them in the past. They don’t bother pumpkin plants.

Some types come out of the ground after 13 to 17 years underground coming out in hordes it could be in the billions.
