Hi all,
I posted this on the genetics and breeding board, but did not get much input. Would anyone be interested in growing a seed from a recreation of a 2009 Wallace? I will be going to college in 2 years and want to pause my giant pumpkin growing with a good cross. I want to cross the 282 Scherber X 1409.5 Miller. This would be as close as I could make it reasonably. The Scherber was a clone off of the mother of the 2009 Wallace, so it most likely would be more similar to that Harp plant than any other. I would apreciate feedback.
Thanks,
Leif

And with what pollen was the 282 Scherber pollinated?
I think it is impossible to get a new 2009 Wallace like that..
I also think there is more involved than genetics. Maybe its even the mindset of the grower itself that is pollinating the flower. There is more than physics involved between heaven and earth..

If the 2009 plant was heterozygous and then selfed, to create the 282 Scherber seed you're going to plant, then the genetics could be reaaranged to homozygous. There is no guarantee what you would create would be the same. It may be better, it may be worse. How about 282 x 1625 Gantner? Has that been done?

There is some genetic science behind hybrid vigor... this might be worth reading if you havent already. Good luck...Even if the outcome is not guaranteed, it doesnt hurt to try. Probably will be... Looking for orange seeds myself.

That is great man! I intended to do that five years ago and then two years ago. I started both the 282 and the 1409, but had problems with one of the plants and it never happened.

282 was a selfed seed from the cutting (clone) of the 1725 plant that grew the 2009. Like noted, it will not of course be the same, but could possibly be something close. The 282 seeds I grew and Joe grew looked just like the 2009 pumpkin. The 282 was also used in the line that have grown the most recent world record squash. Kind of a fun project.

Don’t forget the 220 Debacco (13) there out there, I ran out of room last year. I kick my self in the ass.
