What could be causing this?
No pests that I can see and plant is generally healthy although older leaves are yellowing at a fairly quick rate.
These are Atlantic giant seeds. Soil is Miracle Gro in-ground soil amended with leaf compost and worm castings. I keep it on the dry side, watering only once soil becomes dry 1.5-2in down.
Any help would be appreciated! I am a newer grower desperate to save my plants!

I would pull all that mulch away from the stump . Next, i would scrape with a clean knife all the brown rot away, then scrub with a little bleach water. Get a fan on the wounds and run 24/7 until it is totally dry.
The first pic may be that you have squash vine borers in the vine. If it looks like wet saw dust in the wounds , i would say that is your issue. Have you treated your plant with a systemic insecticide ? If not you will want to do that.

ZAPPA thank you for your quick reply.
I will definitely make those changes. Do you have a recommendation for a systemic insecticide I can find on amazon?
Much thanks, Ryan

As ZAPPA suspected, the first plant has squash vine borers.

I found two larva and pulled them out, soaking the step in 1:10 bleach-water and put a fan on it.
If anyone has advice, I would be very grateful.

Bayer Tree and Shrub has the systemic active ingredient you need and can find it locally. Water it in and it will be taken up by the roots

Would that be Imidacloprid? If so, be sure to check if that works on SVB (Squash Vine Borers) - it works on Cucumber beetles and a lot of others, but the SVB is a moth larvae rather than a beetle and thus we MAY need a different tool against them - i am not certain, but a little bell just went off - good luck---eg

If the rot is moving, a systemic fungicide may be in order. I use Organocide, a phosphite, translocates into the roots and all other plant parts. Murder on Myco, but if you need to save the plant, it is worth it.
