Hi all, I am wondering how much garden space I should give my bushel gourd. I was planning on giving it about 150-200 square foot with 50-100 square foot for the watermelon. I do have the option of only growing 1 this year and giving the watermelon the other spot. I would greatly appreciate advice.

I have read that bushel gourds need a space that is 15 by 15 feet, and watermelons need a space that is 20 by 10 feet. That is, of course, the recomendations for the almost world record size, so you could probably scale down, do about 15 by 10 for both. An older book I have read, from the mid 90s, has said to give watermelons a 6 by 8 area, and marrows, which are grown the same way as bushel gourds, an 8 by 10 area. Hope this helped.

Thanks. I will give the bushel gourd about 250 square foot. The watermelon will get about 100 square foot since the bushel gourd is the RMGVG club grow.
