In the event of weigh-off cancellation, some growers might want a back-up plan to record official weights. What are the exact requirements from GPC? How can a grower have a scale certified?

For example: if I buy a 2000lb or 3000lb capacity scale, do I need to have it certified by my State’s department of agriculture?

There are 2 other competitive growers in my county who have made several entries in GPC events. I’m trying to figure out a back-up plan for us if there are no club weigh-offs.

Truck Stops and Scrap Yards have to have certified scales if you want to go that route. Karl Haist weighed his 996 squash at a scrap yard.

Truck stop and scrap yard scales might only be accurate to 10 lbs, so check ahead of time.

A lot of truck scales go on 20 lb increments.

You could also check around for a seed farm. I'm fortunate enough to have a neighbor who sells ag seeds. he has a scale that is certified every year and goes on 1LB increments.

We have a livestock auction house in town... would they have a scale? I’m definitely looking for something accurate to the pound.

There are affordable crane scales online, but I’m wondering if it would have to get checked by the dept of agriculture for the weight to be recognized as official
