I hope it doesn't come to that. But it's better than no weigh off at all.

Maybe a "Do it yourself weigh-off." The site supplies the scale, a lifting device, a forklift/driver, a witness and lots of disinfectant. You bring your own lifting team. That would work. The audience, if any, all sit in their cars with binoculars.

I like Marv's idea of a weigh-off with no pumpkins. Just weigh the growers instead. My money would be on some of the WI growers or maybe a Canadian or two. :-)

Oh, i can reverse my weight loss starting right now. Sorry, fellas, only ladies can measure ME. Oh, what, this is DIY? I'll just keep my pie hole shut and wear Blaze Orange - HD Winner! Then I'd yell 'YAY!' and be DQ'd. SOS, lol---eg

How about if everyone stays home until there are no more viruses to kill anyone? Lets make life perfectly safe.
Orange U. Glad, I bet I could give a few growers a run for their money.

Us northern growers are no bigger than people from Georgia. In fact I'd bet that we are in better shape overall. Just because our giant pumpkins & other veggies are much heavier than ours, it doesn't mean us growers weigh more.

Actually Georgia has a higher prevalence of obesity than Wisconsin does. 32.5% vs. 32.0%. Southern states tend to have the highest rates with West Virginia and Mississippi having the highest at 39.5%. This comes from CDC obesity prevalence data. :)

mshy, you have to take in the account the percentage of pumpkin growers in the each state and the obesity data. So my money would still be on a northern states.

Jane and Phil, I was just teasing. There is a Canadian grower who always mentions his 300lb body frame when comparing size when he standing next to a pumpkin. But, once again, I was just joking.

I think there are many possibilities to pull it off none are ideal but getting an official weight is important to many of us. No prizes of course

Okay, pumpkin in the middle on the scale, like the Sun, the pumpkin crew are the next few and the announcer, all spaced at least 10 feet apart with masks on, of course, like the 'terrestrial' planets - and then a HUGE ways away, like Jupiter, Saturn, YourAnus, lol and Neptune, (Pluto is always gonna be a planet to me) would be the spectators and even the growers...As long as no one coughs on you and you don't touch anyone that actually HAS CoViD-19 and then suck your thumb for whatever reason, you'll be OK, in my opinion. I've worked with a guy whose wife and child have CoViD-19. Within 10 feet, I've been recently. That's pretty close. Anyway, sorry for the rant, guess i'm just enthused by the Marv! idea as well. I'm also thinking of it as like a televised golf tournament...eg

Could always get a lifting team etc who have already had the virus and survived it. There should be lots of candidates for the job by October. There will be weigh-offs. You can count on it. They can be held anywhere you can plug in a scale.
