It will be three years since the last time I've grown giant pumpkins or squashes. Every year since I have found squash bugs in my garage and found two adult size ones already this year.

I am not sure if the stink bugs you find in the house are the same ones that attack our squash plants. To me they look like a different species.

Some do look different and could be a different species. Overall they both stink the same when crushed.

Add some pics, yes they over winter... come out and Zap again... I hate those SOB's... do you have a community garden close by? Neighbors that like to grow zukes, and other squash? Look around they are living year around from somewhereZ

Next time I find one I will take a picture of it. There are community garden plots that My mom, my brother, and myself have gardened at for 7 years. Each year other gardeners were always messy with their own garden. Always lots of bad bugs and diseases.

What kind of damage do squash bugs do? Chewing leaves, sucking juice, root problems????????????? Thanks.

Squash Bugs spread Yellow Vine disease. Not Good, season ender.

You could not spray for them but you would have to make and fit little itty bitty tiny masks on every one of them...yellow vine is a virus....I think they also come from China

Also LJ ...squash vine borers (svbs) can really damage a plant...not sure if you have them out your way but those are the main ones to watch out for.

The ones found in your garage are most likely brown marmorated stink bugs, same family as the squash bug. I havent found any of those on my pumpkins. They just like to get in the house to find a warm place for winter.

The stinkbugs that we call squash bugs are wary. They,ll give you the slip by scooting under leaves and sneaking away from a threat. The other grey stink bug we have out west are very slow and not wary at all.
