Hi all, I am wondering if anyone has had their first true leaf show up on top of a cotyledon rater than the normal on one side or the other of the two cotyledon's. It is the first time I have ever seen this after sprouting over 50 pumpkins. The leaf still looks healthy, but I want to know which direction it will vine. Thanks, Leif

Given that the implied growth direction is opposite the first true leaf, i'd say that it'd ultimately be in the same direction as the SECOND true leaf, although nothing is guaranteed - only time will tell and depending on how long it's in the peat pot or whatever, it'll become more certain at some point soon --- easter eg

Seen quite a few weird layouts.Could be fine as long as first leaf has a decent stalk and a nice bud with a second leaf on the way(no pun intended) :)

In the past, I have experienced one or two times when the plant tries to grow opposite of the second true leaf. No matter how much I tried to train the plants. In order to grow in the direction I wanted them to grow they only wanted to grow backwards. Even with using skewers to control the plants direction. They would grow vertical till they could grow backwards.

Make your best guess when its time to plant it ant tip it down when planting . You can get it to go that way with tipping and its easier to get it on the ground.

Every year it seems that about half of our plants set the vine 90 degrees one way or the other from the direction it is supposed to go. Doesn't matter if it is me or my son planting them. I don't know if it is RF radiation from the cell towers a half mile away, the cold air that sinks in our valley or something else.

yet another option is to plant it at a 90-degree rotation from where you want it to grow, so that you only have to turn the plant half as much to compensate for any misdirection - eg

If you guess wrong, it goes 180 degrees off. Sometimes they do that too. Maybe I need to back off on the plutonium....
