The entries are rolling in now. There is until April 15th to get your entry in.
The most common question I have been asked is: Can a grower enter more than one 150 plant. I had to think about this one. I decided that the intent of the contest was to make a competition that the growers that were space limited could equally compete in. With that thought, I decided that one entry per grower kept the original thought intact. So, it is one 150 sq plant per grower. Some households have more than one grower. So for them, it is one plant per grower.
Also, I have had an inquiring from Becky in Hawaii. She asked, if she could post the necessary pictures from growers in Hawaii, that do not have internet access. I have known Becky for many years. I decided that yes, she can be the intermediate for the growers that can not do it themselves. I hope to see some good ones coming from the Aloha state.
There is another group, that might be a similar situation. I have asked one member if he would be willing to be an intermediate. Waiting for response.
So far, most all growers have used the paypal option. Why go to the germy post office, when you can online. For someone that does not use paypal, i still accept snail mail entries. Being in charge of this more difficult than I expected. I am trying my best to be fair and to keep it fun. Much respect for Bart for the time he spent in this position. For the past month, I have been slow in responding to emails. This will improve now. I am checking my junk folder daily.

And one more thing...with covid-19, i am reserving the right to modify "official" 150 weight reporting. Right now, I am leaning towards allowing any weight from a certified scale. Similar to tomato, early entry.
Depending on how this pandemic progresses, I know some growers will be concerned about attending weighoffs. Maybe my new criteria, keep it fair, keep it fun, keep it healthy

Bubba, If you would have thought of it earlier, I could have traded you the seed for the German 150 Sq. Ft contest. Maybe Patryk will let you join even though you're late. That way you could be in both contests like Bnot. I still have a seed left.

Patryk, sent me an email..and said I am in the German contest...if i can get my seed to germinate....wow, germinate had the word german in it. Bubba, I will kick your butt. You have to send me an email before April 15 th to get entered...I will have to look for the deadline for the payment of the $2 entry fee...but that should not be too difficult. They German seed has Clementz genetics.

Thank you guys I appreciate your suggestions. However I tried to grow my 1734 last year and the plants didn't make it. I only have a few 1734s left.So that being said I want to grow the 1734 to keep the greatest shape & best color Pumpkin the 1317 ever grew.I need to keep that seeds line going. So I will have to pass on the German contest. My grandparents would be bummed but it is what is.They came from Alsace. So bring it on BNOT!! LOL Lorraine in 1830s to America.

Bubba, I have you in. Hmmm, I am going to grow a pumpkin from a 97 pounder and you are growing from a 1734 pounder. No problem, I think there are some shared genetics in there. It will fun. Thanks for your entry. Gives me more reason to get excited about this year. Now to figure out how to build a cold frame with the stores being closed. Maybe I will just try to start in a huge pot and go from there.
Happy growing everyone...i am still behind on answering emails.

Bnot, Are you not germinating my 97 pound seed for the German 150 Sq. ft. contest?

wile, i have not germinated my 150 seed yet. I am setting up 3000 for full plants. One section I have is 45 ft by 30 ft that tapers at one end. The tapered end is where my 150 will go. I figure that I will try to start the 97 pounder next weekend. This is going to be difficult dirt. That tail end is nearly pure sand now. I dropped some sop, epsom salt, and sulfur on it today. I am thinking that will probably bring a few truck loads of 12 year old horse compost for it. For location, it fits the 150 competition. For soil...it is really lacking. And extra week to get it up to speed is more important than the extra week of grow season.
