OK my growing space is a square of 7x7 yards. Last year I grew the main right down the middle, typical Christmas tree. But I felt that a lot of space wasn't being used efficiently, especially towards the end of the vine, while the stronger secondaries had to be terminated before they achieved a decent length.
So now I'm thinking of starting in the corner, and growing the main towards the opposite corner, so it will end up like a diamond. It means that the first few secondaries will have to be terminated early, and possibly that vines will need to grow at 45 degrees to the main instead of 90.
But it also means that the secondaries in the middle, and therefore closer to the fruit, will reach more of their potential.
Thoughts and suggestions welcome, I only have one plant to grow so I have to get it right!

I'm trying it this year. A. noel got some super fruit growth using it on a plant even after he lost the stump. Sounds like those secondaries close to the fruit are major players.

I also like this idea and will be trying it on a small AG plant 18x20 and also a bushel gourd plant.

I basically grew a diamond last year when I planted in the corner and grew the plant to the other corner. I think it is well worth trying. It's a simple adjustment to make. Much credit goes out to Alex Noel for this innovative pattern.

I didn't know Alex used this pattern but I know he's a respected grower - does anybody have a contact for him?

I cant think of any downsides/cons. I think its probably an optimal use of space... Let us know how it goes.
