I think so. The problems of excess rain, hail & wind just vanish.

Watering is controlled 100%. Soil can be replaced 100% too if so desired.

Air warms up quicker under glass/plastic, but the main problem is cooling during hot days.

if i had unlimited funds and an actual greenhouse, i'd make sure that it had a large-as-possible, angled-upward, slotted tube along the inside of the top of the structure with a very adequate fan at the upper end of that tube to remove the hot air, already making its way to the outlet - you see this all the time, but i'd have the tube included for sure---eg

Probably. It seems to take a few years for outdoor growing to catch up with greenhouse results these days. The first one over 3000 will probably be an outlier like the 2323 & 2624.

Gotta say a heck of a lot of respect for those that can reach these feats with one grown outdoors! Taking on all of natures elements! Not diminishing those that grow in a greenhouse by any means but I have to hand it to those who grow outdoors and do so a the upper echelon of the sport continuously. Its an amazing feat to get one to that size. An even bigger feat to do so in a virtually uncontrollable environment.

Growing In a greenhouses has its own set of problems, Heat management and Disease management can be a bear in a greenhouse. I do think the advantages outweigh the risks though. I believe the key to reaching 3000 is going to be atmospheric control. We are only starting to scratch the surface on introducing CO2. once the big time growers get that dialed in, look out!

Without the house the weather must be near perfect to hit 2400 & higher in my opinion.The house giving you warmer nights will be key to the 3000 lber.But houses must have sun.Its double edged.The screens really help in keeping them cooler

Getting the balance between lots of sun (good) but lots of heat (bad) is tricky. If you use shading to keep the heat down, you're also reducing the high light levels required for optimal photosynthesis. If you use fans to extract the hot air, adding supplemental CO2 is a waste of time.

If i had enough funds, I would have a greenhouse, set up with an industrial size AC unit with a solar panel field to power it. Heat control is not an issue...AC units are big enough...affording the power is an issue. Solar panels have dropped in cost. For what some growers are spending for the pursuit of a 3000 pound pumpkin...if they have the land...they should invest in a solar field.
