FELLOW GROWERS AND FRIENDS
I DONT KNOW ABOUT YOU BUT IM SICK OF MICKY MOUSE TAPED TOGETHER MEASURING TAPES?
SOMETHING I FEEL THE GIANT PUMPKIN/ SQUASH GROWERS HAVE NEEDED FOR A WHILE NOW IS A SOFT TAPE IN A LENGTH LONG ENOUGH TO MEASURE TODAYS MONSTER PUMPKINS.(ONLY NEED TAPE MEASUREMENTS OF 250" TOTAL - NO OTHER INFO IS NEEDED ON TAPE AS MOST GROWERS DO A THREE WAY MEASUREMENT FOR THE MOST ACCURATE READ)
IM PRESENTLY IN THE PROCESS OF TRYING TO FIND A VENDOR WHO WOULD PRODUCE SUCH A TAPE LENGTH AT A REASONABLE ENOUGH COST TO MAKE IT WORTH WHILE FOR ALL GROWERS.
WILL ADVISE AND MAKE AVAILABLE WHEN SUCCESSFUL

I tried sourcing these. My Minimum Order QTY was 1,000 and in the end it was more expensive than the putting the two tape measures together.

An option for the longer tapes would be fiberglass 100' surveyors tapes and the come with reels. The one issue is some are rated in tenth of feet and not inches.

OK I am reaching out to my suppliers again. So what would a person be willing to pay for a 288" tape.

Would love a 250" tape, the 192's are nice but even I have ran out of room. Done Mike's idea before but eliminating me figuring out what 16 ft 4 inches is in straight inches would be nice

Im sure each club could take 50 to 100 tapes & use them to promote membership. We could group together & buy a few thousand for the next 5 years.Keep me posted Mark@worldwidegiantgrowers.com

I have a 50' tape on a reel, so you can wind it up quickly to prevent tangles. I think the brand name is Lufkin. The one I used when I worked for NRCS was in feet and tenths, but the one I got from my father in law is in feet and inches. Unfortunately that last few years I haven't needed much more than my 144" tape.

From the other side of the pond I´m always wondering why there´s so much trouble associated with getting a decent (long, soft) tape measure. Here in Germany we can go to various stores and buy tape measures at lenghts which by far exceed the needs for OTT measurement. Thus, I´ve briefly checked ebay and also found something (not too expensive), but it´s a tool for those who can live / cope with the metric system.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Site-Measurement-Fiberglass-Tape-Measure-Soft-Rulers-Building-Measuring-Tool-New/173842345677?hash=item2879cfaecd:m:mrCjuNfcoPi6DVEdD0CP1ZA
Now I´m wondering if this might be the problem behind the problem...decent tape measures at decent length for rather cheap money available for metric measurements only???

You just have to look. Amazon prime lists the Komelon 6611I/M open reel fiberglass tape measure (100ft) for $9.16 Used is only $6.88. Cut off the extra 79 ft like mobymikeguide says.

The dritz tape is misleading. It’s 144” on one side and then 145” to 288” on the back. It’s only 144 “ long. I bonded 2 together to make my 288” tape. Been good for the last 3 years.

Pap, that is a great idea! Leave it to you to make it happen! I remember needing a longer tape and thinking the same thing.
