Its hard to get a clear verdict on what this can do. Does it encourage just cell division or does it also help the fruit/pumpkin to be a strong sink?Perhaps some plants may benefit from it but others would not (the growth hormones may be ideal already in some plants?) Share your thoughts?

I know in tomatoes it extends cell division and delays ripening, maybe it Works with Cytokinin after anthesis?
I've tried pulling the terminal Leaf on tomato Vine right before and after bud, and it causes the buds cell division to last longer(Cytokinin increase). With pumpkins, but when cell division increases cell expansion usually doesn't...except with Ethylene, so maybe ethylene raises Cytokinin and Gibberellic acid?

Ethrel extends cell division and delays ripening time

Cytokinin for cell division https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3444270
Can't find cell expansion though except auxin? But something is telling me that can't be it.....but if Ethylene application 2 days after anthesis works for boths sides of fruit growth (cell division and expansion) then we just need to see if pumpkins work the same as tomatoes ...

Thanks. I may never be set up well to grow big AG's. I want to get some big results in the other categories. I am not sure exactly what you mean by terminal leaf but I do think the leaves make auxins while cell division is occuring. Seems to me that under ideal conditions and low stress, the fruit growth could be unaffected by the competing parts of the plant. But back in the real world hacking off any competing parts is the most immediate/practical tool to maintain optimal fruit growth.

Terminal Leaf of tomato
http://www-plb.ucdavis.edu/labs/rost/Tomato/Leaves/leafanat.html
I read it somewhere that Auxin is produced and then stored in the terminal leaflets & apex Sam of tomatoes, so since then I've been pulling them off so that Cytokinin can flow more to the buds and hopefully increase cell division over generations, and I also read that Cytokinin affects a Gene called Wuschel which makes seed size larger ultimately changing growth shape of tomato vine.

I have noticed seed size changes so far*
My experiment is to try to increase yield of a variety and then prune back to one flower for size. We will see...at best I will Learn something...lol

Here are two links to slide shows I have created that show a combination of scientific studies and actual grower collected information. I have compliled a large volume of resources into two slide show presetnations.
First presentation provides a more general overview (if you can call 63 slides general).
http://www.team-pumpkin.org/downloads/IncreasingCellDivisionsmaller.pdf
Second presentation contains the scientific and grower data. While this may be 91 slides it does contain complex concepts that I have attempted to simplify and explain. For those interested in going into the details of the studies/papers I used the last three slides contain links for you to be able to easily find the original published works. *Grower data can be found on slides 4-12

I do plan on having Anthesis available this spring for those interested.
