John Butler weighed the first pumpkin over a 1000 lbs. at the Wallaceburg Kinsmen weigh of today.

1175.6 lbs!

wow, congrats John....the 1K in 150 sq ft has finally been broken. All the growers that have tried the 150 competition know how great of an achievement this is. Just think of all the city growers on 1/8 acre lots....they can break 1K if they have the skill. And you were almost 1200. The bar has been set super high for the future. Truly impressive.

Congratulations John Butler ! When I started this contest years ago I knew it could be done and each year we get closer. You didn't just break the barrier , you smashed it. Now you have redefined what it takes to be a true heavy hitter in the giant pumpkin world. If they would let me grow pumpkins again I would be first in line for seeds.

I cover the pumpkin with a white sheet and add a blanket on cold nights. The weather here was colder then normal spring and a cool dry summer
